Protein Shakes for Weight-loss

Protein shakes for weight-loss – This is the limited edition of Arbonne Stawberry Vegan Protein Shake.

Today I will share my thoughts on protein shakes and how it can be very handy in weight-loss. Whenever you hear of protein shakes you may be thinking that you are punished to replace 2 meals a day with a protein shake for 6 months, every day right?

Well not exactly…. and I wouldn’t recommend that personally. First of all, you will get sick of drinking protein shakes twice a day, every day for 6-12 months (or until you reach your goal weight). This is not something you will likely adapt to as a lifestyle so you will find yourself quitting way before reaching your goal weight.

Having said that, I do love protein shakes and drink them regularly. However, I only drink them on the days when I do intermittent fasting as part of my simple strategy I have put together and followed. Using this strategy I have lost 77 pounds within 15 months and it is part of my lifestyle ever since.

I love protein shakes because it is a scientifically formulated balanced meal, providing you use a quality protein shake. I also choose to drink vegan protein shakes, not because I am vegan but because it is lighter on my stomach. I don’t really do well with dairy and whey based protein shakes.

There are quite a few different vegan protein shakes on the market but unfortunately the taste doesn’t quite do it for me in most of the ones I have tried. The one that I do like and have stuck with is the vegan protein shakes from Arbonne, particularly the chocolate flavour.

Arbonne Vegan Chocolate Protein Shake

The Arbone Protein Chocolate Shake and the Arbone Vanilla Protein Shake are 100% vegan. They provide 20g plant protein per serve to help support muscles and delivers essential amino acids. They also provide more than 20 essential vitamins and minerals per serve. They do not contain sugar or artificial sweeteners!

I love drinking protein shakes on my intermittent fasting days because I know I am providing my body with a balanced meal and it is also lighter on the stomach and I give my stomach a bit of a rest from the foods I eat daily.

For me this lifestyle provides variety in my daily food choices and is also good to take a break from dairy, bread, cereals etc. This jumpstarts the metabolism and results in more weight-loss.

If you are looking to get results and reach your weight-loss goal, check out my own personal weight-loss journey and my struggle with obesity for 18 years. Learn from my past mistakes and start implementing my simple strategy I have designed and follow daily for results. This allows me to enjoy my favourite foods and always have variety in my daily food choices.

The Danger of Weight-loss Supplements

Hi everyone! In todays post, I will share my thoughts with you on the danger of weight-loss supplements.

I am not against natural weight-loss supplements however there is a danger in using weight-loss supplements because of the trap that comes with it.

The danger of weight-loss supplements.

So what do I mean when I mention danger and trap? Well there’s no better way to explain this then using my own personal experience. In my 18 year weight-loss journey book, I share how I have fallen into this weight-loss supplement trap and it is a dangerous thing.

The trap and danger is that when we purchase weight-loss supplements and start taking them, we tend to rely on those supplements to do the work for us and eventually give up on healthy food choices, daily exercise and smaller portions (reduced daily calories).

I share this from my own experience. How many times did I purchase weight-loss supplements and relied on the supplement to do the work. I would lose sight of focusing on healthy food choices, daily exercise and keeping track of what and how much food I eat daily.

Then of course I would not get results and I would blame the supplement, not the fact that I abandoned my healthy lifestyle. Then I would look for a better supplement, the next best thing as they say.

Don’t fall into this trap like I did over and over only to get heavier and miserable due to my hopes being crushed all over again and returning to food for comfort.

I had to learn so much, I had to change so much and I share my journey with you in My 18 Year Weight-loss Journey. I share everything I did to finally reach my goal weight and lose 77 pounds within 15 months and keep it off.

Once again, I am not against natural weight-loss supplements. In fact I will dedicate a page on this website to list a few very good products that I use daily because they really make my journey easier. I now conside natural weight-loss supplements an extra tool, a bit of a boost to the weight I am already losing by following my simple strategy. The supplements simply make my journey easier but they will never ever give results if we rely on the supplements alone.

Thank you for reading and if you have found this post helpful please share it around and help spread this post πŸ™‚

Thanks again and be safe out there xx

Tasty Wholemeal Flour Tortillas/Wraps

Hey everyone, today I will be sharing a recipe for tasty wholemeal flour tortillas/wraps which I use for my home made bean burritos.

Even though it takes time to make these, it is worth it because they are just so much tastier than any wraps or tortillas you buy from the store. These just melt in your mouth and cannot even be compared with store bought ones.

These wraps/tortillas can also be used as pizza bases. Just simply roll it out into a round shape and put your favorite topping on it and bake as usual. It will be like a flat bread pizza, lower in calories than a usual pizza base.

I found this recipe at this link, but my version is slighly different (see my version below):

Best Ever Flour Tortillas

You can check out the link for the exact recipe and info that the author of the recipe shares.

Wholemeal flour tortillas/wraps

I personally have made a few changes to the recipe. I have added wholemeal flour to make them healthier and for the oil, I use sunflower oil because to me it gives the best taste.

Also, a tip for the dry ingredients. I mix the white flour, wholemeal flour, salt and baking powder very well before I add the oil and the warm water. This ensures an even dough for best results.

Mix dry ingredients well

After I add the oil and the warm water, I mix with my hand and then start to knead the dough and knead it for about 5 minutes until the dough is smooth and doesn’t stick to hands or the bowl.

After that I transfer the dough onto a non-stick dough mat. I cut the dough in half, then I cut each half in half again. I continue to cut each piece in half until I have a total of 16 round pieces.

I lightly flour a large plate and I roll each piece in flour lightly and place on the floured plate and cover with cling wrap and let it rest for 15 min.

Cover with cling wrap and allow to rest for 15 min.

Then I get my pan ready, turn on the heat to just below medium and start rolling out each round piece of dough to the size of a medium pan.

I also add 1 teaspoon sunflower oil to the pan for each tortilla I cook. I add the teaspoon of oil and swish the pan around to coat the pan with the oil and then add the rolled out tortilla.

While the tortilla is cooking on one side, I roll out a new piece of dough. I then turn the tortilla on the other side and keep an eye on it until it’s lightly cooked and then turn it out on a plate. I repeat these steps until all tortillas are rolled out and cooked.

Roll out tortilla to the size of the pan.

Once I finish cooking all tortillas, I let it cool off for 5 minutes and then cover them with cling wrap. Before I use these tortillas to roll out into burritos, I warm them up in microwave for 5 min so they are soft and easy to roll into burritos.

My Bean Burritos ready to be baked in hot oven for 10 min.

Before baking them in the Here is my version of the recipe:

– 2 cups plain flour

– 1 cup wholemeal flour

– 1 teaspoon salt

– teaspoon baking powder

– 1/3 cup sunflower oil

– 1 cup warm water

I will share the recipe to my bean burrito filling soon. I hope you love this tortilla/wrap recipe as much as I do!

Reviewing a wonderful book I finished reading

Dear readers and followers of my blog… Today I am going to share my thoughts, a review you could say, of a wonderful book I just finished reading. It is titled “God is Able” and written by: T. S. Thompson

God is Able book review

This whole book is based on just 1 single Bible verse which is 2 Corinthians 9:8

“And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work”

What can I say…this book came into my hands at just the right time, especially due to this pandemic and the third lockdown here in Melbourne, Australia.

It is amazing how the author managed to break down this verse, choose key words such as ‘Abound’ ‘Grace’ ‘Sufficiency’ and ‘all things’ and wrote 19 chapters based on just this one verse putting emphasis on abound, grace and sufficiency.

This opened my eyes as to how we can learn so much just from 1 Bible verse if we are willing to dig into it with an open and humble heart and apply it to so many areas in our lives.

You may think…what does this have to do with health and nutrition? Good question actually!

You see, I believe in holistic health, meaning, mind, body and spirit have to be healthy and in harmony with God our creator. You may have different beliefs and that is ok, we are all free to choose what we want to believe. However, I choose God who created the universe, earth, sun, moon, water, air, oxygen, animals, plants, herbs and lastly humans. It is with humans that he ended his creation and crowned it with it’s glory.

I believe in staying in close connection with our creator and in harmony with him. He gives us peace of mind, peace in our hearts and hope.

Another verse that the author touched on is the one that says that God is a God of hope. We must never lose hope and if we hold on to God and his promises in his word, we will not lose hope. Hope is healthy, the opposite of hope is dispair, anxiety, fear. That will bring on sickness and disease.

Here is a snapshot of a beautiful Bible verse that she mentioned in the book and that is so needed in the times we live in….

Here Jesus confirms that in the world it won’t be easy. There will be trials and hard times but if we put our trust in God, just as Jesus always trusted his father, we will overcome anything that comes our way, including this pandemic. Nothing is impossible with God or to God. Jesus overcame the devil and conquered death.

Here is another verse she mentioned…

Jesus again promises us peace, perfect peace!! He knew what we as humans go through and yet he said not to allow our hearts to be troubled…sad…afraid. He said if we go to him, he gives us his peace, not just peace but HIS peace. And we know his peace is perfect peace. Isn’t that wonderful???

So, if we have the peace of Jesus in our hearts and are of good cheer (happy in Jesus and trusting him always), then our health will improve greatly, our mental health. If our mental health is good then it will transfer onto our body. The health of our body and organs is in close connection with our mind. Therefore, poor mental health will lead to poor organ and body health. It is all connected and God is the best one to go to because HE created us and HE is PERFECT!

Back to the title of the Book – God is Able….Oh yes, he is. I have experienced his power in My 18 Year Weight-loss Journey. I knew my last attempt to finally reach my goal wasn’t an easy road. I decided to take God with me. And wow….what a result – 77 pounds withing 15 months and kept it off for 2 years.

After the 2 years, I learned the saddest news that my precious mother was diagnosed with cancer. Following was the saddest 2 years of my life, watching her battle cancer, go through 2 surgeries and chemo. I would go help her, do her housework, cooking and spend time with her. Seeing my precious father heartbroken, broke my heart even more.

This caused huge stress on me, I also had my own family to take care of and all while carrying in me a heavy and broken heart. Just a few months before I had listed my 2 books on Amazon and then ended up taking them off, I couldn’t cope with promoting my books, I had a much more urgent task at had, to take care of my precious parents.

After 2 years of battling cancer, my precious mum was in remission. They had both decided to go overseas to our home country for a visit, to rest, to change scenery…and who can blame them?!

On the 3rd of Sep 2017, they left for their holiday. After just 4 days of arriving there, they had both tradgically passed away together…in a tradgic way, Dad just 63, mum just 62 πŸ’”. This has changed my life forever. The trauma, the shock, the heartache…. I was never able to welcome my parents home, feel their hugs, hear their voices…etc….

This has caused me to increase my antidepressant dosage and I had put on 15kg. Stress, medication, heartache and low motivation to even be alive… has destroyed me. But, because I kept holding onto my Lord for strength, slowly slowly…I was able to get up, try to put my broken body and heart together with God’s help and start taking care of my health again.

Because of the way they died and the amount of time it took us to bring them back to Australia to bury them here, we were not able to see them. It took me 6 months after the funeral to even accept that they have died and that it was my parents in those caskets. Then after 6 months of finally accepting that they are not coming back from overseas alive, the grief set in. That went on for another 8 months and then came the anger, unexplainable anger πŸ’”. Having said that, I was never angry at God, I did ask him ‘why?, why Lord?’ and he gently whispered “You will know in heaven and when you will learn why, it will make perfect sense to you”.

That was the moment I started to slowly heal from the anger and put my faith in the beautiful promises in the Bible. Promises that we will meet our loved ones in heaven if we love God and follow in the steps of Jesus. We will live alongside our loved ones forever with no more tears, pain, disease, sickness and death. I also embraced the beautiful promise that the death we experience here, is a deep sleep. My parents have no more pain, no more worry and when Jesus returns to take his children home he will call their names and they will hear his voice and arise out of their graves and meet Jesus in the air.

Regarding the 15 kg I have put on through these painful and traumatic 4 years, I have started following the strategy I share in my book and I am back on track again and of course I took God again with me on this journey. I was glad that I didn’t put on all the weight I had previously lost, which was 35kg (77 pounds). That is because to some extent, even through the pain and trauma I went through, I had still stuck to the healthy habits and lifesryle I had adapted, which I share in my book.

I have re-listed my books on Amazon again and I will pursue my passion and dream to help, inspire and motivate as many people as I can to take back their health, their life and live a better quality of life, a happy, healthy and peaceful life πŸ’—

This is what the author of ‘God is Able‘ will go into as well. She goes on to say that God is able to help us abound or you could say succeed ‘in all things good’ just like the verse says.

This includes weight-loss because it is a struggle against temptation to eat unhealthy foods, comfort foods, junk food, which makes us happy temporary and leads us in a never ending vicious cycle. God is able to help us and give us strength and renew our mind so we can see things differently and then be able to make healthier choices. This doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy the foods I love, I still do but it’s the strategy that I teach in my book, along with mindset and other simple steps, which have helped me reach my healthy weight goal that will help you lose weight, without dieting and while still enjoying your favorite foods.

God is Able, is a wonderdul book for those that do believe in God. It will help you find new strength and hope in God and see his unfailing love for all his children, even those that don’t believe in him. If you are someone that does not believe in God, I still recommend this book, it will open your mind, open your eyes to the God you have perhaps always misunderstood. This book will help you get to know him so much more. He is a God of mercy, hope and unconditional love.

Thank you so much for reading and stay safe and healthy! xx

How to be positive in tough times

Dear readers, today I will share my thoughts on how to be positive in tough times. There is no doubt that we are all going through a very tough year. 2020 has been very tough for people around the world. We can’t say it’s been tough just for a few countries, it is all around the world. I personally, have never been through a pandemic in my lifetime so for me it has been tough, it has been strange and it has changed the way I see the world right now.

Having said that, the toughest year for me was 2017 when I suddenly lost my precious parents. They were young and had many years ahead of them but I lost them suddenly in a tragic way. What’s worse is that they had just gone on a holiday in our home country to rest for a few weeks and just 4 days after arriving there, barely getting over the jet lag, they passed away.

So 2020, even though it is a very tough year…I always say ‘It could be worse’ and these 4 words right there help me to keep going and get through. We are now in our 3rd lockdown and 4 weeks have passed since this 3rd lockdown started and we have 2 more weeks to go as of today. It was a tough one this one, we are only allowed to travel a 5km radius around our house and we have a curfew where we are not allowed to be outside the house between 8pm and 5am. Also, we are allowed to go for grocery shopping only once a day and only 1 member of the family can go.

Fur babies teach us so much love, patience and simplicity – in other words, be content in any circumstance

So how do we stay positive in such times? I haven’t seen my sister and brother, nieces & nephews for weeks. I haven’t been able to see my physio for my neck massages either because of the 5km radius rule. Once again, I tell myself ‘It could be worse”. All I can do is call loved ones and friends and I thank God that we have phones and can call, message and even video call. I also thank God for my little fur baby, my precious boy Lenny. I adopted this precious boy 5 months after my parents passed. He was 8 weeks old when I picked him up.

Baby Lenny in early 2018

He came from a very messy household. When I picked him up he was full of flees, ringworm and was much smaller for his age and his fur was very unhealthy due to  the flees. He was the last of the litter, sort of like the ugly duckling that nobody wanted. All it took was for him to look at me with those innocent blue eyes and I had to take him home. At the time I didn’t even know he had all those health issues and flees. I soon found out when I brought him home, I took him to the laundry where I had prepared his litter and little bed, water bowl and food. I had light colored tiles in the laundry. I left him on the tiles to go and find his litter and then I noticed black dots on the tiles and they were jumping up and down…and that’s when I yelled out…’Fleas….he has fleas!”

Not long after that, I noticed i was itchy on my arm and I was scratching more and more…and then it turned into a red ring that was getting larger and larger…I never even knew there was such a thing called ‘ringworm’. Then my niece and nephew got it as well, my daughter as well, basically most of us that were holding and cuddling Lenny. Long story short, I had to buy a cage and he had to be confined in a cage for 4 weeks. I had to wear gloves when I was handling him and I also had to call specialists to disinfect all the rugs and couches. It was painful and very hard but when it had all passed…we had this loving, gorgeous boy that was growing and becoming part of the family.

He has grown into such a loving & affectionate boy and I couldn’t imagine life without him. He has helped me so much during this pandemic. I have learned simplicity & contentment from him. He doesn’t ask for much and has taught me to take time during the day to rest and relax my mind from overthinking and worry.

Lenny today πŸ™‚

So all in all…to stay positive in tough times, we must look for positives, we must look for the blessings in our life. They are there all the time. Even if there are 9 negatives and only 1 positive around us, we must focus on that 1 positive and always remember…’it could be worse’ because that is the truth. Let’s be greatful and content for what we have right now in this very moment and focus on that.

Constantly washing hands during covid-19

We are constantly washing our hands during this covid-19 Pandemic. I don’t think I have ever washed my hands as often as in the last 6 months!

I have friends that are having problems with their skin now. The skin on their hands are cracking and even bleeding. Of course the amount of hand sanitiser that we are constantly using, does not help.

The next thing that comes to our mind is to use hand cream to soothe and help heal the skin on our hands right? But personally, I think it’s more important to take a good look at the handwash we are using.

Most handwashes contain harsh ingredients that dry out the skin with each wash. There are a lot of different types of handwashes available these days. Some are a big No-No and some are quite good.

I personally choose the Arbonne range of handwash and hand cream because they are gentle on the hands and I trust this company. Every product I have tried so far has not dissapointed me.

The Biggest Mistake in Weight-loss

The biggest mistake in weight-loss? Here it is…from my own personal experience during my 18 year weight-loss journey and battling obesity:

Giving up too soon.

I know…the answer is so simple but it’s the secret to actually reaching your goal. During the 18 years on battling obesity and trying to lose weight, this was my biggest mistake. I would start eating less and making healthier choices, I would start exercising (walking), and I would see results in the first week and would be so happy!

But then….I continued the same thing in the second week and saw no results so I would give up, go back to my old habits and put the weight back again and more. I would be sad, emotional and angry with myself so that would lead me to comfort food. This led to a vicious never ending cycle and I would be miserable all over again.

This all changed in 2014 when I started my final weight-loss journey and I share it all in my book. This time I kept going no matter what. This time i understood that my body is not a robot to work exactly the same every week (or even every day). This time I understood that I must have patience and perseverance. This time I had a simple strategy that I followed and I share this strategy in my book. This time I had a strong WHY, a why that hurt so much. This WHY kept me going on days when it got tough or on weeks where I didn’t lose anything (in fact some weeks I would put on a bit of weight).

But the fact that I DID NOT GIVE UP too soon and kept persevering has got me to the finish line successfully. I had successfully reached my goal weight!

Biggest mistake in weight-loss? We give up too soon.

So always remember to be patient, persevere, have a strong WHY and never ever give up, especially the first 4 weeks of your journey to lose weight. It takes time for the body to adjust, give your body time to get the message that it has to dig into those fat cells and shrink them. It took years for you to put the weight on so you should give it at least a year for you to lose those first 40 pounds.

When you become impatient and ready to give up, ask yourself this question: What will I achieve if I go back to my old habits? The answer is: I will keep going around in the vicious cycle of weigh gain and feel like crap. Is it worth it?? To me personally, no. So you will have to answer this question for yourself and take it from there xx

If you have found this post helpful, please share with others too. Thank you so much for reading. Stay healthy and safe!

PS: If you would like to lose weight naturally without dieting or following complicated meal plans then check out my book in which I share my simple strategy which I have used personally. Using my strategy, I was able to lose 77 pounds within 15 months while still enjoying my favorite foods. I share my18 year personal struggle with obesity and the painful mistakes I have made within those 18 years. You can learn from my experience and apply my strategy and reach your goal weight once and for all. If you know of someone that is struggling to lose weight, please share my book with them also. How alkaline water can help prevent diseases

Today I will be sharing my thoughts on water and how it can help prevent diseases. Yes, a simple resource that God put on this earth for us, is the healthiest beverage for the human body. Where would we be without this precious resource?

We depend on water every second of our life. The human body is around 70% water which means that water is even more important to our body than food. Think about that! Every organ in our body needs water, every cell in our body needs water, our lymphatic system and blood depends on water.

The many roles of water in our body

In order for the water to help our body fight disease, it has to have a PH above 7.0 and 14.0 being the highest level of alkalinity. Anything below 7 is acidic with 1.0 being the highest level of acidity. The problem these days is that the human body is almost always below 7.0 which means it is acidic. What happens if our body is acidic? Disease thrives in an acidic environment and one of them is cancer.

What happens when the body detects that it is acidic? It tries to neutralize the acid by borrowing alkaline minerals from vital organs and bones to help dissolve the acidic compounds and get rid of them safely. Unfortunately, over time, it depletes the organs and bones and weakens them, this can lead to osteoporosis. A high acidity level in the body can have a negative effect in the whole body, particularly the digestive, circulatory, intestinal, respiratory and immune systems.

So What Causes High Acidity in The Body?

  • Stress – Yes, stress is the number one contributor to an acidic body. When we stress it causes the body to produce acidic toxins.
  • An imbalanced diet. For example not enough fruits and veggies in our daily diet. A diet rich in greens such as spinach, kale, cabbage, brocoli is high in alkaline as well as citrus fruits that help to regulate acidity in the body. Take a lemon for example, it is acidic but guess what? Once it reaches the stomach it neutralizes stomach acids and becomes alkaline.
  • A diet rich in meat and refined foods. Yes, too much meat, especially red meat causes an acidic environment in the body. Red meat has been linked to bowel cancer. Cancer THRIVES in an acidic environment. Also white flour, white pasta, cakes, biscuits, slices, sugar. Sugar and artificial sweeteners are HIGHLY acidic, stay away from them and have sugar only as a treat sometimes. I have a rule to eat sweets that contain sugar only on weekends and in moderation. Sugar is said to be 8 times more addictive than cocaine, no wonder we are all addicted to it and disease is thriving in the world today.
  • Poor elimination of toxins. This means that the organs that are responsible to eliminate toxins from our body are not really functioning at their best. These are: kidneys, liver, colon, lungs and skin. Most of the time we can help these organs by eating a healthy, balanced diet and healthy exercise. Unfortunately, sometimes it can be genetic or a disorder we are born with.
  • Insufficient oxygenation – which is caused by increased production of acidic toxins – usually stress and unhealthy diet is the cause to this.
  • An imbalanced intestinal PH.

What are the effects and symptoms of an acidic body?

  • Osteoporosis
  • Muscle atrophy
  • Some type of Kidney stones

Which in turn causes…

  • Fatigue
  • Bad breath
  • Poor digestion
  • Imbalances of intestinal flora
  • Muscle pain
  • Joint pain
  • Skin problems such as eczema and psoriasis
  • Excessive perspiration
  • Cramps
  • Various fungal infections
  • Migraine

So what can you do to prevent an acidic body?

First of all, try to manage stress. Teas like chamomile and passion flower is good to drink during the day. There is also my favorite product which I personally love and it is called Inner Calm. This natural de-stress powder features sustainably sourced Ashwagandha, a powerful adaptogen, along with sustainably sourced Saffron to help you achieve a balanced mindset.β—Š L-theanine, an amino acid found in tea leaves, promotes a sense of calm and relaxation without feeling drowsy.β—Š Peach green tea flavor. Click here for more info!

Practice deep breathing for good oxygenation. Deep breathing helps to slow down the production of toxic waste products in the body. Even better when you practice deep breathing in fresh air – walking is excellent for this exercise.

Start eating a balanced diet daily with lots of greens, vegetables and fruits. Cut down on sugar, diet soft drinks which are loaded with artificial sweeteners, cakes, pastries, white bread, white pasta, refined foods. Eat plant proteins and drink pure healthy water and herbal teas. I drink this every day to provide my body with quality plant protein as well as 24 vitamins, minerals + amino acids. I also recommend DIGESTION PLUS to support healthy digestion, which contains prebiotics, probiotics and enzymes.

Water is the simplest way to create an alkaline body

Drinking lots of water will help the kidneys to eliminate toxins effectively. Speaking of water, not just any water will do the job. It has to be quality alkaline water because each cell in your body depends on water. Having said that, if your body is too alkaline it can cause a whole lot of other problems due to Alkalosis in the body. This can lead to symptoms such as light headedness and confusion. This is why you need something that will turn your water into the exact alkaline level that you want.

The best way that I know of to alkalanize your body and help to fight disease is to drink alkaline water. There is a a collection of specialized machines that you hook up to your kitchen tap and you are able to set the level of alkalinity that you want and it will produce the desired level of alkaline water for you. This is the most effective and simplest way I know to create the perfect level of alkaline in your body. We all know that cancer and other certain diseases can not survive in an alkaline environment. This is why it is so important to create the perfect environment in our body where disease cannot grow and thrive. This special alkaline water has so many health benefits and has helped thousands of people worldwide.

If you would like to find out the many benefits of these state of the art water transforming machines, I will pass you on to my co-worker Marios who is also passionate about health and helping others. He can answer all your questions about these machines and share with you the benefits of Alkaline water and how it has helped so many people. Are you exercising and still not losing weight?

Hey everyone, today I will be sharing my thoughts on exercising and losing weight. I will explain why exercise doesn’t always help you to lose weight, in fact, it can even cause weight gain!

I have experienced both. Exercise has helped me lose weight and then in other time slots of my life it has caused me to put on weight.

During my final weight-loss attempt in which I lost 77 pounds (35kg) within 15 months, I have started exercising and it has helped me shed those 77 pounds and reach my goal weight.

Having said that, exercise was only 20% of my success, the rest was a combination of mindset, my why, and a few other things that I talk about in my book: My 18 Year Weight-loss Journey.

I still exercise every morning, 5 days a week and if it’s nice weather on Saturdays and Sundays, I will go for a relaxing walk outside. Monday to Friday I exercise on my treadmill as well as my rowing machine and lift some weights as well, 2-3 times per week.

On my treadmill I walk for 45 min every morning and burn around 350 calories. When I was losing the 77 pounds, I exercised in the morning and also added another 20 min of treadmill in the afternoon if I had time.

My morning exercise on my treadmill.

Just like I mentioned before, I have had times throughout the last 2 years when exercise actually caused me to gain weight. Yes, it’s weird and doesn’t make sense but I have experienced it. Maybe you have to? Let me know in comments below or connect with me on FB 😊

So why does this happen? Well for me personally, it is my Thyroid and Adrenal glands. After losing both my parents both at once on 8th Sep, 2017, the trauma, shock, heartache that I have experienced took a toll on my whole body.

I suddenly began having pain in my fingers, toes and just shooting pain in random parts of my body. I was so scared and didn’t know what was happening to me. On top of that, I was getting stabbing pain and dull pain in my neck, something I had never experienced before. On top of that, migraines at least once a week, along with nausea and vomiting.

I went to doctors, had blood tests, had x-rays and results always came back normal but I wasn’t feeling normal. I decided to see Naturopaths, 2 of them. They did other tests on me, checked my thyroid and adrenal glands. Suddenly we were getting somewhere.

I was told that my thyroid is inflamed and the nodes on it are larger than normal. I was told that my adrenal glands are overworked due to stress, sadness, heartache.

Due to my thyrpod struggling, it was up to the Adrenal glands to step in and ‘save the body’ by trying to give me the energy needed during the day to survive.

Because the Adrenal glands were struggling and running on empty, it was pumping out excess cortisol, the stress hormone which causes inflammation, which in turn causes pain. No wonder I was in so much pain!

Each time I was exercising, I was wearing out my adrenal glands even more. In turn, even more stress hormone was being pumped throughout my body. What does stress mean for our body? It means we will NOT lose weight no matter how hard we try, unless we eat 600 cals per day, everyday and we know that is not healthy.

So exercising can actually cause weight gain if our Thyroid and Adrenal glands are struggling.

How do you know you have Adrenal fatigue?

Adrenal Glands

Some of the symptoms of Adrenal gland fatigue are:

– Fatigue, tiredness

– Body aches and pain

– Low blood pressure

– Lightheadedness

– Loss of body hair

– Skin discoloration

– Restlessness and can’t sleep at night even though you are tired

What causes Adrenal fatigue?

Well…the main cause is stress. Stress about work, stress about a problem in your life which you don’t have control over. Heartache of losing loved ones. Stress on your body from too much caffeine and sugar. Yes, caffeine can put so much stress on your adrenal glands!

You feel tired, you go for another coffee (usually with sugar), and it gives you a quick surge of energy only to find yourself an hour later so tired and lightheaded. You are in a continuous vicious cycle!

To make it worse, because of so much caffeine, you can’t settle down at night and sleep, so then your adrenal glands are running on empty and the next day pumping out cortisol like crazy to keep you going and of course you enter the vicious cycle of coffee all over again.

Best thing to do is move on to pure green tea. It is so much healthier and contains much less caffeine than coffee. It is best to drink it without sugar of course.

Replace Coffee with Green Tea

I share alot of information about green tea in both my books:

My 18 Year Weight-loss Journey

My Natural Weight-loss Recipe

Green tea is rich in antioxidants and studies have shown that it fights cancer so why not switch to this healthy alternative?

Back to exercise… I noticed that when I have pushed myself to walk very fast and jog on the treadmill, I have not lost weight at the end of the week. As soon as I started listening to my body and taking it slower but being consistent daily, I have started seeing the weight drop at the end of each week, with exception to when it’s that time of the month (sometimes, not every month) and that is normal. Our body is not a robot, it goes through a lot of changes each month, especially for us women.

Does Magnesium Help With Migraine Headaches?

Hey everyone, today I will share my thoughts on Magnesium and how it has helped me with reducing Migraine Headaches to where I hardly get a Migraine now.

I don’t know about you but I will do anything I can to prevent migraine headaches. I used to get them very often and very bad as well.

A few weeks ago, I started taking Magnesium tablets just so that I would help reduce stress and help my muscles to be more relaxed.

However, I started reading on the container label that in order to prevent migraines, I should take 2 capsules in the morning and 2 capsules at night.

I started taking as per directions and I have not had a Migraine since then (2 weeks now with no Migraines!).

Most of the time the migraine would wake me up at 4am and I remember thinking….”Oh no…I am going to have a horrible day today”.

For me personally, when I get a migraine, it triggers nausea and vomiting. Taking panadol or Nurofen does nothing for me, in fact if I drink water alone, my stomach will not hold it in and I will throw up.

I end up vomiting 3-4 times and have to lay down, close my eyes and just hope to feel better soon.

I can tell for sure when it is a migraine because pain killers don’t work and I get nausea and vomiting.

As you can see in the image below, a headache is usually not localized, pain killers will help get rid of a headache and nausea and vomiting is not associated with headaches.

Difference between a Headache and a Migraine

So if you suffer from Migraines make sure you try Magnesium, it has helped me so much and this is why I am sharing my experience with you.

Other health benefits of Magnesium are:

1. Magnesium is involved in hundreds of biochemical reactions in the body.

About 60% of magnesium is in your bones while the rest is in your muscles, soft tissues and fluids, including blood.

Every cell in the body contains magnesium and needs it to function.

Magnesium helps with…

– Energy production

– Protein formation

– Gene maintenance

– Muscle movements

– Nervous system regulation

Studies suggest that around 50% of the people in the US and Europe get less than the recommended daily amount of magnesium.

2. Magnesium may boost exercise performance

When you exercise you may need 10% – 20% more magnesium as opposed to when you rest, depending on the activity.

Magnesium helps to move blood sugar into your muscles and dispose of lactate which can build up during exercise and cause fatigue.

Magnesium helps you perform better in exercise

3. Magnesium fights depression.

Magnesium plays a critical role in your brain function and mood. Low levels of Magnesium in your body are linked to an increased risk of depression.

Some experts believe that many cases of depression and mental illness are caused by the low magnesium content in modern food.

Supplementing with this mineral may help reduce symptoms of depression and in some cases the results can be dramatic.

Magnesium can help fight depression

4. Magnesium has benefits against Type 2 Diabetes.

Studies suggest that about 48% of people with type 2 diabetes habe low levels of magnesium in their blood.

This can impair insulin’s ability to keep blood sugar levels under control.

People with a low magnesium intake have a higher risk of developing diabetes.

One study which followed more than 4,000 people for 20 years  found that those with the highest magnesium intake were 47% less likely to develop diabetes.

There are more benefits I can list but to keep the post as short as I can, I will stop here for now 😊

Below is an image of the Magnesium that I use. You can use any brand as long as it is Tri-Magnesium Citrate 900mg.
